Starting in the modeling world is difficult. The number 1 question I and allllll models get is "Where do I start? or How can I be a model" ---If it was only that easy to say just click your heels 3 times and say "I want to be a model" and poof -POW! you are the new Ashley Graham. unfortunately, it is not easy and it takes time, hard work and investment. I hope this read will help you start your passion/dream!
Head Shots --- is the break or make you in casting and submissions. You have to stand out from the hundred maybe thousands of submission that one casting director has to see-- so you have to do the necessary steps to be that model pick for the next campaign, photoshoot, runway, showroom etc. Here are some tips!
Photographer - this is very important as he/she will capture your beauty make sure the photographer has done headshots, you have seen his previous work and his/her edit skills are on point! Keep in mind you are paying for quality not quantity.
Make up artist and Hairstylist - Yes! invest in one please do not do your own -- take advantage on not doing anything but sit there look cute while the work is given to the professionals. Your job should only be "Given face and give the camera LIFE!"
Research: RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!! it is as easy as "Your preference in Search engine > Search bar type > "Headshots" > click on images tab. I want you to take a moment and look at all of the headshots on that screen. What do you see? what you do not see? Which images stands out?
Here are some examples what a headshot looks like -- Take a look at the model, the eye, (very important feature I will go more in-depth about this later) the head angle, the mouth, what she is wearing, the make up, the hair.
5 Great TIPS:
Hair: Keep away from your face! should be styled
Make up: CLEAN!! NATURAL!!
Jewelry: I suggest NO Jewelry let this headshot about you no distraction (Earrings are okay just keep it small as a dime)
Clothes: As you can see headshots are aim from your upper bust area up or shoulders up. Doing a bare shoulder is fine.
Tops: Full coverage bra with a good lift (Strap and/or strapless) Solid color tops
BONUS TIP: Cover your tattoos if any
Keep away from:
Not looking like your images: going to a casting with curly red hair but your headshot has black long hair will not make the potential clients happy
Not engaging with the camera: Looking down and away is a no, no.. Think about the client and the millions of headshots they see.. your eyes have to not only connect to the camera but to the client when they are looking through numerous of comp cards.
Overly Accessorizing: It distracts away from the money maker-- which is you!
Make up: Please try to have a clean face but do not look like you are going to club or performing in a drag queen show
Non-supportive bra (Strap or Strapless)
